Ionizers do not destroy odors or gases, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs come off from products such as paints, cleaning products and adhesives. VOCs are considered indoor contaminants and can cause health problems. Unfortunately, ionizers are not effective in reducing VOCs in air. There are two types of air ionizers, electrostatic precipitators and ion generators.
Both types give an electrical charge to polluting particles. Charged particles, or ions, are attracted to particles with the opposite charge (according to science). The charged particles will then stick together. The difference between electrostatic precipitators and ion generators is how they charge the particles and what happens to the particles after changing them. Ion generators act by charging particles in a room so that they are attracted to walls, floors, tables, curtains, occupants, etc.
Abrasion can cause these particles to resuspend in the air. In some cases, these devices contain a collector to attract charged particles back to the unit. While ion generators can eliminate small particles (e.g., although some have suggested that these devices provide a benefit by rectifying a hypothetical ion imbalance), no controlled study has confirmed this effect. All air conditioning units have filters that clean the air from dust, odors, microorganisms, etc.
However, current comfort and hygiene needs are leading some manufacturers to also supply ionizers to the units. The ionizer is an additional filter that is currently one of the most advanced air purification technologies in the world (COLD PLASMA). The Cold Plasma ionizer releases ions, so it disinfects and reduces bad odors in the room. In addition, it accumulates household dust, pollen and other small particles that are responsible for allergies.
At the same time, it generates ions to create a safe, healthy and relaxing environment. Installing a common ionizing air purifier for an oven takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the location of your oven or HVAC system, ease of access, your level of experience, and other factors. Air cleaning devices, especially those integrated into the ducts of your air conditioning system, can vary considerably in cost and effectiveness, but are more affordable if installed with a new or replacement HVAC system. When an HVAC ionizer is installed in your HVAC system, it generates ions that are injected in the stream. Installed in the ducts of a home's central air conditioning system, air cleaning devices are designed to provide a more sophisticated way to trap and remove indoor air contaminants compared to a standard box or pleated air filter that you're probably used to buying and replacing for a couple of dollars. Research has shown that oven ionizers installed as part of an air conditioning system and air purifiers located within shared building spaces help eliminate viruses and air contaminants, including mold, bacteria and allergens, from the air.
